Ideal for organizations implementing or strengthening a PHS program, this flexible role supports leadership with practical, evidence-based guidance.

Supporting Firm Performance

The CMHO collaborates across the organization to enhance the employee experience and develop high-performance teams. The CMHO’s mission is to help senior leadership mitigate mental harm risks and promote resilience, enabling the organization to achieve its full potential.

  • Identify psychosocial factors that influence the employee experience and promote a positive workplace culture.
  • Provide strategies to mitigate risks of burnout, stress, and fatigue to reduce mental harm and associated losses (e.g., disability claims).
  • Recommend policies and programs to foster positive mental health and prevent mental harm.
  • Collaborate with HR partners to analyze data, plan strategically for mental health initiatives, and train leaders in creating a psychologically safe environment.
  • Implement recommendations based on business experience and leading OHS practices, such as the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety Z1008 or ISO 45003.
Workplace Mental Health Expert and Keynote Speaker Bill Howatt

Fractional CMHO is an independent expert consultant and coach, serving part-time to ensure unbiased advice free from internal politics. This role requires a commitment of a minimum of five days per month to build trust and effective relationships. The CMHO acts as a trusted advisor guiding the organization towards a psychologically safe workplace by providing candid insights and expertise to the CEO.
